Happy Valentines Day from the DG Movie Department. Consider this terrible movie review a present from yours truly.
Ah yes, Fifty Shades. The franchise that started in 2015 is back on the big screen, here to take your hard-earned dollars and get things steamy for you and your sweetheart during Valentines Day. And if you remember from last time, Anastasia and Christian’s relationship didn’t exactly leave me wanting more. But somehow it made buckets of cash – leaving millions of horny housewives gleaming with joy. And as a result, Fifty Shades Darker (the sequel) got green-lit. Can it capture the same magic and spark that so many people felt the first time? While you ponder that, I’m going to grab a box in which to store my sanity.
So the big day is looming and you still don’t have a special someone to share it with. You’ve exhausted the dating possibilities in the mundane human world and have consigned yourself to being forever alone with only your cat and your never-ending TBR pile for company. Why not take a leaf out of our favorite paranormal romance books and try to catch the attention of a vampire, werewolf, faerie, or other magical hottie this year? Looking through the stories of some of our favorite fantasy YA heart-throbs I’ve compiled a list of the most likely places and techniques for landing yourself a sultry supernatural S.O. Love it, hate it, or maintain your indifference toward it: Valentine’s Day is one of the top money-making holidays in the United States. Statistically, ‘romantic’ dinners outrank what people have, the past several years, primarily spent their money on for Valentine’s Day, followed by candy, trips, flowers, jewelry, and, finally, clothing/lingerie.
Keep in mind the term lingerie may include a number of items; historically, it could refer simply to a woman’s night gown, or it could refer to undergarments, in general. In the vein of undergarments, and in the historical realm, one article of clothing that might come to mind is the corset.
Samantha Ellis’ How to Be a Heroine begins with a friendly debate: would you rather be Jane Eyre or Cathy Earnshaw? I’ve certainly had similar debates with friends, although ours were more likely to be about heroines from Jane Austen’s work than from the Bronte sisters. For Ellis, however, this friendly debate sets her off on a quest to revisit all of her favorite heroines, and question why they resonated with her at different points in her life. Each chapter focuses on a different heroine or book, but will often include brief tangents or references to other books she was reading at that point in her life. And the best part of it all just might be the bibliography at the end, listing all the works mentioned in the book. If you’re looking to buy yourself a Galentine’s Day treat, I highly recommend looking for a copy of How to Be a Heroine, newly released in the US this month by Knopf.
Ah yeah, it’s that time alright. That movie, which shall many shall see is coming out, and its supposed to be sexy. Though I have my own doubts on how good this film in question, with all its “Grey-ness” will be, it’s safe to say people are gonna see it. But what about movies that are actually sexy, and in fact, good?
From steamy kisses, to incredibly heart pounding dialog, we’ve got you covered this Valentine’s Day. So sit back, grab your heart-shaped pillow, and let’s take a look at some sexy moments on film. The sexiest, in fact.
Hello everyone! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and to get you excited for it, here are a few film characters I wish I could declare my love to. Even if you don’t have a real Valentine, have no fear! Just jump into the world of film and find some cuties there (that’s what I did)!
Be excited, Geekettes, because this week, we have some really cool romance, sex, and dating themed posts for you. While we didn’t focus predominantly on friendship, we’re sharing our fem-geeky knowledge on all things Galentine’s and Valentine’s with you!
Along with our regularly scheduled posts on all things geeky, this week we’re also offering some really cool perspectives on romantic books, movies, and TV episodes. On Friday, we bring you a really special post inspired by the 50 Shades madness: Two guest writers, one who is a professional dominatrix, gave us their perspective on healthy BDSM.
We hope you have as much fun reading our “sappy” posts as we did writing them!
When I was a kid, one of my favorite games to play in computer class was My Mathematical Life. I was a Sims addict, and virtual lives fascinated and enthralled me. MML allowed me to experience the highs and lows of life in the “real world”, from graduation to job searching, from marriage and kids to household running and bank account managing, going on vacations and making purchases, all through a system of bank accounts and choices to be made– all in the one-hour block and without leaving my elementary school.
Now that I’m an actual “grown up” — a college student with a toddler and all the normal day-to-day finances that go with being an adult, I wish I could go back to sitting in that computer lab, doing some simple calculations and clicking the mouse in order to manage my life. It’s that time of year again! Flowers, chocolates, and tiny, naked babies with bows abound; displays of sappiness alternate with exhibitions of misery, and most people are just happy when it’s over. But here at the Daily Geekette, we’d like to take the time to celebrate the mess that is Valentine’s Day in as nerdy of a way as possible, because love comes in all shapes, sizes, pixels, and platforms. So, without further ado, here’s a list of some memorable video game relationships (and some relationships we included just because we love them):
Yes, it’s Valentines Day! The holiday where you either celebrate the fact that you’re taken or that you don’t have to spend money on someone else’s happiness. But whether you are on one side or another, you can’t deny that watching a good romantic flick once in a while, especially on this holiday, ain’t too hard to do.
So, to get you in that box of chocolates eating mood, here’s my personal top 10 list of the best kisses in cinema history. Some will be the usual Oscar montage favorites, while others could be underrated in some eyes. But which smooches did I chose? Let’s take a look!
To start off this countdown, I had to include one scene that is so hilariously unforgettable. If you’ve seen Mean Girls, the now immortal teenage comedy, you know what I’m talking about. Damian and Janius are, and will always be, my favorite part of the movie, and those precious few seconds of them reacting to kissing each other is comedy gold.
