Anime Boston Highlights

IMG_4373I attended Anime Boston 2015 last weekend. I had loads of fun and very little drama, despite being one of 26,000+ people cramming into the Hynes Convention Center. This was the year of giant robots and heinous monsters, where Marco Polo was deemed dead and The Beatles were alive. I got to interview Mona Marshall, catch up with friends, and I actually managed to attend a third of the events on my To Do List!  A new personal record!

Checking Out Classic Who: Edge of Destruction

When we last left the original TARDIS team, they had just escaped the cavemen and had landed on an alien planet. The next serial is set on the planet Skaro and introduces the Daleks, the Doctor’s most famous enemy.  We continue checking out Classic Who with the third serial, The Edge of Destruction.

The Edge of Destruction is Doctor Who’s first bottle story. All the action takes place in the TARDIS, and  only the Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara are featured. When Doctor Who was first produced in 1963, 13 episodes were ordered. An Unearthly Child is four, while the following serial is seven. They needed a quick filler story to bring the total episodes to 13.

But starting with 2005 Doctor Who means a lot of Doctor Who – usually referred as Classic Who – gets left out. Before Christopher Eccleston was the Ninth Doctor, there were eight who came before him. I’ve got to be honest, I’ve seen every episode of new Who more than once, but I’ve only seen a smattering of Classic Who. So starting today, and then every two weeks, I’ll write my impressions of a Classic Who episode*. Continue reading Checking Out Classic Who: An Unearthly Child
