Dalin’s Coolest Things from SDCC 2015

So, this weekend I was at ConnectiCon, a nerd gathering of smallish proportions in Hartford, CT. Ironically, a similar, yet much larger meeting was happening on the other coast–a little event you might know about called San Diego Comic Con. Yes, that is the one with all the movie sneak peeks, TV show panels, merchandise previews, and much much more. Though I did not attend the event, I was definitely on my phone, keeping myself up-to-date with the biggest stories, and as such I feel I can give you the (personal) coolest things I saw from this year’s SDCC….. online, at least.

Star Wars: Episode VII Casting Additions – Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie

(Source)

As you may recall a few months back, Disney announced a huge chunk of the cast for Star Wars: Episode VII. Much of the internet was concerned over the huge ratio difference of male to female cast members in the film, creating much hoopla over the possibility of the series not breaking any new ground with female characters. Well, you can breath a sigh of relief, internet, because the most glorious announcement was made! The stunning and precious Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) and Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) have been cast in the new J.J Abrams film. There of course is no word on what specific character they will play in the film, nor any plot details, but knowing they will even be in the movie is a treat in all the right ways.

This not only clears the rumors of multiple female roles in the film, but also shows yet again how awesome it is that Star Wars is rocking in the diversity department. Lupita and Gwendoline are fantastic casting choices all around, and with other additions previously mentioned like John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, I truly can’t wait to see this new, possibly breathtaking edition to the Star Wars franchise.

So, are you excited for Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast? Who do you think they’ll play? I’m hoping for Lupita as a Jedi, as I would buy every single merchandise of that ever (you hear me, Disney? I am serious!) and Gwendoline as maybe an elegant political figure.
