Merry Christmas, one and all! Today is a day to open presents, crack open the box of hot chocolate mix, and get yourself full of that spirit. Actor Bob Hoskins Dead at 71

It is with the saddest of hearts the movie world (and The Daily Geekette) says goodbye to legendary actor Bob Hoskins, who died at 71 today. (Source) He died from a bout of pneumonia, and earlier in 2012 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

If you don’t know Mr. Hoskins work, you might recognize him from such nostalgic 80’s/90’s classics as Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Mermaids, and my personal favorite of all time, Hook, where Bob played the lovable Smee. He also was known for his intense dramatic roles, including his incredible work in The Long Good Friday. He even made movies like Maid in Manhattan and Spice World just a bit classier.

Bob is and will always be a very important aspect of my childhood. His voice was immediately recognizable, and his acting, regardless of the role (looking at you, Mario!) was top notch. If you’ve never seen any of his work, you are missing out, as he was one of the (underrated) greats.

We’ll miss you Bob, forever and always.
