Back in 2010, everyone and their mom was waiting for the release of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. It was the movie that every Hot Topic kid had fantasized about since their first purchase of a Nightmare Before Christmas wristband, and with every new image and trailer, the anticipation grew and grew. But some 6 years later, many viewers of the original still debate about whether Burton’s take on the famous tales of Lewis Carroll was actually good or not. But what cannot be denied is it made a bucketload of money, and as a result, we now have a sequel: Alice Through The Looking Glass, now directed by James Bobin and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Sacha Baron Cohen, along with many other familiar residents of Burton’s Wonderland.

Everyone is always searching for some sort of idol. One who represents our dreams and ambitions in life, and how we would like to end up in our more mature state of living. For me, that person is Guillermo del Toro, the man that has directed countless amounts of beautiful, haunting, electric, and bizarre cinematic adventures–including Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Pacific Rim. In short, I’ve never met a del Toro film I didn’t like, though some I love more than others. And with his recent effort, Crimson Peak, Guillermo is returning to the Gothic horror genre, a world he seems most comfortable in and understands better than any other.

With every new trailer for Disney’s Maleficent movie, my fantasy loving heart beats just a little bit faster. Maybe it’s the fact that my once passionate girl crush for Angelina Jolie has rekindled because of her flawless Eleanor Audley impression, or maybe it’s hearing all those beautiful Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast) dialog, but just everything about this Summer release has got me pumped.
There are some questionable factors though that this new Japanese trailer shows off, especially one clip that pretty much confirms my suspicions of why Maleficent is so hell bent on getting rid of Aurora. (WARNING: THIS TRAILER CAN BE CONSIDERED VERY SPOILER HEAVY, SO IF THAT AIN’T YOUR THING DON’T WATCH OR READ THIS.)
