Disney’s Elena of Avalor: Why This Princess/New Show Looks Awesome

With a mostly “Snow White” history, Disney has not exactly been known as the most diverse company when it comes to media representation. But thankfully in the last 20 or so years, things have been slowly changing for the better – with the introduction of Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, and most recently, Tiana – the lineup of Disney Princesses is starting to look a bit more colorful. But many people have wondered, where is the Latin representation? Well, with the help of Elena of Avalor, Disney hopes to answer that question. And below are the reasons why I think she (and her show) is gonna be pretty dang cool.

“Time Jump” – Alice Through The Looking Glass Movie Review

Back in 2010, everyone and their mom was waiting for the release of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. It was the movie that every Hot Topic kid had fantasized about since their first purchase of a Nightmare Before Christmas wristband, and with every new image and trailer, the anticipation grew and grew. But some 6 years later, many viewers of the original still debate about whether Burton’s take on the famous tales of Lewis Carroll was actually good or not. But what cannot be denied is it made a bucketload of money, and as a result, we now have a sequel: Alice Through The Looking Glass, now directed by James Bobin and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Sacha Baron Cohen, along with many other familiar residents of Burton’s Wonderland.

Finding Dory: First Trailer

Find your exit buddy and prepare for a wilder ride than the East Australian Current: the Finding Dory trailer is here! For over two years, I’ve had a theory about the plot of this movie, and I think my theory is coming true!

I was thirteen when Finding Nemo came out, and I was kind of obsessed with it. Recite-the-whole-movie obsessed. So when a sequel about everyone’s favorite blue tang was announced, I had one all-consuming theory. Do you recall Dory explaining her condition to Marlin after she forgets him the first time?

“I have short term memory loss. It runs in my family. At least, I think it does….Hmm. Where are they?”

When You Wish For Some Respect: Disney Heroines Need Love Too!

I’ll always be the first to say it: I love Disney. It’s a company that though full of flaws left and right, have a grip on my heart like no other. From their various films, theme parks, TV series, and other forms of media, I can’t get enough of the House of Mouse. But, I can honestly say, that even within that love, there’s one little aspect that really bothers the hell out of me: Princesses.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am a loyal Disney Princess brand customer. I support the movies, various products, and even spend way too much time waiting on line to grab a picture with (INSERT FAVORITE PRINCESS HERE). Yet, I can’t help but feel that their system of “royalty” and who gets to be considered part of the line up is a bit confusing, and ultimately disrespectful to another group within their company that gets widely ignored.
