The comic book world can be incredibly overwhelming. Comic book stores are geared toward longtime readers, putting the most recent issue in front, and then everything else in bins. Sometimes the bins are separated into DC, Marvel, and indie. Sometimes they’re straight up alphabetical. If you decide you’re going to go for trade, meaning several issues bound into a book that hopefully conveys a full storyline, you then have to hope that your comic series does not interact with any other comics, because then you’ve got to buy the crossovers to get the full story. THEN, pray your story doesn’t jump into a parallel universe that already existed and has rules that have been explained in another series.
I want to tell you about some of the issues I faced when starting to get into comics. Luckily, I worked at Borders at the time, and had some really awesome co-workers who helped me get on the right track. Here are some of the tips I’ve picked up over my years of getting into comics: Continue reading Daily Geekette’s Guide to Getting Into Comics
Earlier this year, the world was treated to an interesting entry in the DC movie universe. Yes, Batman v. Superman left many of us movie lovers in a bit of a divide, and I sadly was one that still has a reserved seat on that hater train (at least when it comes to the theatrical cut of film) and it is a spot that is hard to move from. Some of you might have heard that last night was a pretty big event in the DC movie world. On the CW, after the premiere of a new episode of The Flash, we got a sneak peak into what DC is cooking up with Warner Brothers in terms of their cinematic adventures. We got some general info on the members of the Justice League, footage from the Wonder Woman solo movie, and the debut of the first full-length Suicide Squad trailer. Was it good? Was it bad? Was it what we wanted? Well, these were only brief looks at these new movies at best, but they sure brought up a lot to think about. Here’s a breakdown of The Good, The Bad, and The Comicy.

When I sat down to watch the first season finale of The Flash, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m not someone who usually watches the promo trailers week-to-week, so I hadn’t seen any previews. In my mind, so much had been wrapped up last week simply with the capture of Harrison Wells. Isn’t that how it usually works? You capture the bad guy and then go out for drinks to celebrate? But Harrison Wells wasn’t just any bad guy, so The Flash had to do more with him, and thus you have the finale. My full thoughts (and spoilers) below!
