“Star Trek: Discovery” Announces New Cast Members

screen-shot-2016-11-29-at-3-16-19-pm

Someone (aka the people at CBS Television) have clearly gone into my brain and taken the fan fiction I wrote at 14 years old, and have brought it to life. What do I mean? Well, the folks behind the new Star Trek series (Discovery) have announced some more casting – and hold onto your nerdy tissues, because this news is incredible. That’s right, in addition to previously announced Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), we found out that two more actors have joined the cast -Anthony Rapp (Rent) and Doug Jones (Hellboy). If this sounds crazy amazing to you, then clearly this (like it is for me) is your nerdy dream come true.

Supernatural Caring

Celebrities donating to or starting their own charities is nothing new, but it is really cool to hear about it. I tend to back these people when they do something genuine like this. My latest on the list? Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Jared Padalecki.

One year ago, Jared Padalecki started the Always Keep Fighting campaign to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Profits went to To Write Love On Her Arms, Wounded Warrior, and A.I.R-Attitudes In Reverse-Student Suicide Prevention-Mental Health. Padalecki has been very open with his own struggles with mental health, and launched this campaign to help others. tumblr_o10ncxxKKB1sum7b2o1_1280

Videogames to Look Out For in 2016

Alongside my gamer wish list for December, here is the list of games I am amped up about in 2016. 2016 is a big year for current franchises and small indie groups to step up and it’s plenty of time to start gaming and trying new things.

  1. Dishonored 2

If you loved Dishonored 1 and had a blast, I bet Dishonored 2 won’t disappoint. It will be released for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Windows.  This game is full of interesting plot and tedious skill. Currently, there is no scheduled release date for this game.

2. Rise of the Tomb Raider

This is the sequel to the 2013 Tomb Raider game, and is an action-adventure game packed with plenty of skill and puzzles. This was already released for most in November, but will be available for Windows early 2016. This is a cool game to play if you haven’t already and if you love Tomb Raider, you better get on it.

3. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles

We have already received China in 2015, and in January we should get India and Russia in the next few months. You will be able to play these on most platforms. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchises have really taken off with many adventures in different parts and times of the world. If you have not played the China one already, use your gift cards from the holidays to pick it up.  I am really looking forward to playing these next two games.

4. Dying Light Expansion: The Following

This is a standalone expansion for one of the most horrifying games I have played in the last two years. It was a new zombie game that had everyone on their toes (and having nightmares) with plenty of hard missions and skill. The expansion is set to come out in February. This will be free to anyone with the season pass, and contains more story, a new map, and vehicle piloting. If you do not already own Dying Light, you can get all of these together when it comes out.

5. Firewatch

This game is set to come out in February, and is a first-person adventure game. It will be for Windows and Playstation. This has been in the making for some time and I am really looking forward to trying something new. Campo Santos Productions has me really excited to play this game, as I love adventure games. You follow a volunteer working in the Fire Outlook in Yellowstone Park after the fires of 1988. This is a totally new setting and you get to do some exploration and investigation on the cause of the fires.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Theatrical Poster Released

The time has arrived for one of the most anticipated images of 2015 to be released. Yep, that’s right, the official theatrical poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here, and thank the maker, it is beautiful. And full of Geekette-approved power, too!

Disney Announces Details on “Frozen” Ride “Frozen Ever After”

Though I am not the biggest fan of Frozen, there is no denying that Disney has a huge hit on their hands, and are taking every opportunity to showcase it – especially in their theme parks. For Epcot nerds like myself, we mourn the lose of Maelstrom, the Norway themed dark ride inside Epcot’s World Showcase, which is now being replaced by a Frozen themed attraction. But maybe, with these just released details for the new ride, us Maelstrom fans can breath a tiny sigh of relief that at least this new experience has some quality work going into it.

“Terminator: Genisys” Trailer 2 Debuts

This week, many trailers arrived on the internet to get themselves a date with a little movie called Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though of course I could have talked about that “Ant movie,” I instead feel it is much more interesting to discuss the other big trailer that dropped. What is it? Terminator: Genisys….. hooray?
