Earlier this year, the world was treated to an interesting entry in the DC movie universe. Yes, Batman v. Superman left many of us movie lovers in a bit of a divide, and I sadly was one that still has a reserved seat on that hater train (at least when it comes to the theatrical cut of film) and it is a spot that is hard to move from. But with the release of Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. has yet again left the nerd community in a weird spot – are we supposed to enjoy this movie or hate it like Rotten Tomatoes would like us to? Well, internet, that decision is of course, up to you. But, as someone that likes to think for herself when it comes to films (obviously) I decided to go into this new DCU flick with a pair of fresh eyes. The results? Well that takes a bit of explaining.
As you can guess, the best days of most cons are Friday and Saturday, and this year’s SDCC did not disappoint when it came to the excitement levels of news. So here we go friends – let’s take a look at the most incredible, nerd screaming information that has been released to the masses from San Diego Comic Con 2016 over the past two days! Are you excited? Because Princess Diana certainly is!
DC Comics – a company that in comic and TV form I love deeply, but cinematically has let me down so many times. From the brilliance of Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy to the less than stellar results of both Green Lantern and the later 90’s Batman films, the inconsistency of DC’s comic to film adaptations have left many to speculate what they’ll be like in the future. But at Comic Con 2013, a ray of light seemed to shine down from the cinematic comic book heavens, and it was in the shape of a Bat mixed with a giant oversized symbol of hope. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice could well have been the movie to get DC on the same track as the Marvel Comics Universe, and I – like many fans of the Justice League – had high hopes for the film. But did those dreams exactly come true? Eh….not really.
Some of you might have heard that last night was a pretty big event in the DC movie world. On the CW, after the premiere of a new episode of The Flash, we got a sneak peak into what DC is cooking up with Warner Brothers in terms of their cinematic adventures. We got some general info on the members of the Justice League, footage from the Wonder Woman solo movie, and the debut of the first full-length Suicide Squad trailer. Was it good? Was it bad? Was it what we wanted? Well, these were only brief looks at these new movies at best, but they sure brought up a lot to think about. Here’s a breakdown of The Good, The Bad, and The Comicy.
Some of you might have noticed that in the past week or so, a lot–and I mean a lot–of trailers have dropped. Why? Well it just so happens that the biggest movie event of the year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is coming out in just a week. And what does that mean? Well, a lot of big time movies want to grab your attention before you see the craziest cinematic experience of 2015–so they can get you pumped for the ones that could be the top dog for 2016.
So, which of these advertisements has gotten my film nerd dreams blazing? Well here’s a list of what I think are the cream of the crop, and bottom of the barrel, from the trailers that could be in front of your screening next weekend.
The Batman V Superman trailer has been leaked, and its a trailer…. I guess. If you are curious to know what the heck even happens in it, and that shaking camera recording file has been removed from your personal video watching site of choice, here is a run down of what is shown:
