The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced their picks for the best of the best in 2016’s movie releases. Yes, La La Land and Moonlight got into the race. But there are some nice surprises in that special group. Curious to see who made the list? Take a deep breath, grab your popcorn, and let’s see who could grab the gold at this year’s upcoming Oscar ceremony.
Hello, movie friends! I’m back with another Oscar-hopeful filled article to help you with your Award season picks. And now that the Golden Globe nominations have been announced, we can get a better idea of the true buzz around Tinseltown. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the 5 ladies that could take the slots for Best Actress at the Oscars this coming February.
That time of year again is rolling around the corner, where Hollywood has their eye on the next movie to throw onto the awards hype train. So every week (leading up to January 24th, when the Academy’s nominations come out) I’ll be giving you my predictions per category, so that you can impress your friends at all of your New Years Eve parties. And without further ado, let’s see who could score Best Picture…. and the nominees are….
When it comes to the film industry, there should be a sign on the wall saying “you don’t have to be a man to work here, but it helps.” Because whilst it’s not impossible to be a world-renown, highly in-demand film goddess on-screen, it can get seriously tough for those of us behind the lens. Even actresses can get a bum deal in the pay department, and there have long been issues with the type and quality of female roles, especially for older actresses. But these grievances are just the tip of the iceberg.
Over the past year there have been lots of things written in the press about the lack of women in the top roles in the industry; and even worse those few female producers and directors that do make are less well known. It seems that getting your foot in the door and getting noticed are even harder if you happen to be of the female persuasion. With that oppressive cloud over our heads it’s not surprising that the Oscar nominations can serve as one long, grim, reminder of the mountain we’ve yet to climb to reach gender equality.
Here it is, Geekettes! With the Oscar’s just around the corner (aka my favorite time of year) I wanted to leave you with my opinions on the nominees. From Irish love stories to Outer Space Adventures and even some car chases for good measure, this year’s Academy Awards offer quite a bit of competition to look over. So, if you need some help figuring out who to choose for your own personal voting ballot, here are some of my (hopefully) helpful opinions!
Welcome to the coverage regarding Hollywood’s best and whitest I MEAN BRIGHTEST – yes I swiped that joke from the opening number, it was just too good not to. But anyway, on with the show!

COVERAGE STARTING NOW
It’s been a while since the King of the Monsters has been featured in any American ads. Probably his most famous was during 1992, when NBA all star Charles Barkley dueled against the famous kaiju for Nike. Now Legendary, via their Facebook page, debuted the latest Snickers candy commercial which would feature the one and only Godzilla.
This new ad, part of their “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign, will be featured during this Sunday’s telecast of the Academy Awards. Joining the ranks of Robin Williams, Godzilla is shown in the commercial as your everyday kind of guy. Suddenly, we see what he’s like when he doesn’t get a bite of a Snickers, and trust me it ain’t pretty.
Though the commercial is clearly using an older design for the pop culture icon, it’s still nice to see him used in a hilarious, light hearted campaign like he was back in the 90’s. If you want more Godzilla action in your life, check out the movie hitting theaters May 16th.
