Grown Up Coloring Books Just Got Geekier with Firefly’s Serenity and Avatar: The Last Airbender

coloringavatarIn January, Kayla wrote about the joys of adult coloring books, especially ones with geeky themes like Marvel comics, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, and Sherlock. Well get ready to add to your collection because Dark Horse just announced that it is launching its own adult coloring book program, starting with these two big crowd-pleasers: Serenity and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Dark Horse is a publisher known mainly for its comics, including Hellboy, Buffy, Evangelion, and more. On October 5, 2016, they will release their first adult coloring books. The art style of each matches the show.  Avatar is simple and cartoony, with lots of swirling clouds. It is illustrated by Jed Henry in collaboration with the show’s creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Serenity is much more detailed, channeling that space-Western vibe. It apparently includes scenes from the Firefly TV series, not just the movie.

coloringserenityYou can relive your favorite scenes from both Avatar and Firefly as you fill them with color. What better way to de-stress and geek out at the same time? Come October, I’m gonna need someone to put my life on hold while I go color through all 45 beautiful pages of each of these.

You can preorder either (or both!) of these coloring books at your local comic store, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or IndieBound.

I wonder if the Serenity one includes that scene where Mal is stranded in the desert in the buff? Now that’s my idea of an adult coloring book! What scenes do you hope will be included in these two works? Will you be ordering them for yourself? Let us know in the comments.
