Hello readers! Theater Thursday is back at it again, this time taking a look at the big news coming your way in the theater world. We got tons of casting news, updates on shows we love, along with Tony Awards excitement and more! So what are we waiting for? Let’s take a look at all this theater goodness.
School of Rock will “rock” in New London Theatre
For those of you West End residents, or travelers heading to the UK, something rockin’ is coming your way. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new Broadway hit School of Rock will be traveling across the pond this fall for a West End run. Originally scheduled to play at the London Palladium, the hit musical will begin performances at the New London Theatre starting October 24th. No specific casting has yet to be announced, but considering the level of new talent the Broadway production gave the theater world (including the leading man debut of Alex Brightman), I’m expecting something epic for you UK theater-goers. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Photos Released
For those theater lovers who also adore Harry Potter, the first official photos of the cast of The Cursed Child (in costume) have been released, and they are recently magical. We get to see adult Harry, Ron, and Hermione, as well as other Hogwarts (grown up) graduates. We even get to meet the trio’s offspring, including the Granger-Weasley’s super cute daughter Rose. Full cast announcements have been made, along with details on the theater going experience – including the request that audiences arrive an hour early to the theater! Hedwig and the New Casting Announcements
If you are a frequent Theater Thursday reader, you’ll know that DG loves themselves some Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and these announcements about the new touring version are off the charts exciting! First off, Darren Criss will return to play Hedwig during the LA and San Fran run of the production, while Lena Hall will also be coming back at Yitzhak. But that’s not the only news that the internet is buzzing about – Hall will also be playing Hedwig during the tour, playing the role once out of the performance week. For those that are knowledgable on their Hedwig history, the most notable woman to play the wig wearing rockstar was Ally Sheedy, who unfortunately didn’t last too long in the original production due to number of personal issues. But with Hall taking over, this could be one of the most iconic portrayals of the character in the Hedwig legacy. For more info on the tour, click the link here.
Roundabout’s Holiday Inn Announces Broadway Cast
Celebrate the magic of Irving Berlin again, as his classic Holiday Inn is coming to Broadway, thanks for the people at Roundabout and Universal Stage Production. Though previews won’t be starting till September 2016, we are finally getting some word on who has joined the cast. In the leads, we got Gentlemen’s Guide‘s Bryce Pinkham, High School Musical‘s Corbin Bleu, Doctor Zhivago’s Lora Lee Gayer, and many other fabulous talents.
