Supernatural Caring

Celebrities donating to or starting their own charities is nothing new, but it is really cool to hear about it. I tend to back these people when they do something genuine like this. My latest on the list? Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Jared Padalecki.

One year ago, Jared Padalecki started the Always Keep Fighting campaign to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Profits went to To Write Love On Her Arms, Wounded Warrior, and A.I.R-Attitudes In Reverse-Student Suicide Prevention-Mental Health. Padalecki has been very open with his own struggles with mental health, and launched this campaign to help others. tumblr_o10ncxxKKB1sum7b2o1_1280

To date, there are five campaigns. At the time of this article’s release, campaign five is still going on. You can buy your shirt at until March 17. Jared and his co-star Jensen Ackles started The Pack Fund to distribute the profits from the campaign sales after they teamed up for campaign two.

Meanwhile, I could go on and on about the amazing things Misha Collins does for the world. He is an angel. This ray of sunshine started GISHWES (the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen) in 2011, which promotes participants to make art, be silly, and to help others. Misha also promotes helping the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. Very recently, Misha teamed up with Jensen to create their You Are Not Alone campaign.tumblr_o2efh1qV561tcu65ho1_500 Profits from the sales are going to the startup of the SPNFamily Crisis Support Network. The network will be run by volunteers trained to respond to crisis calls. The network will be available twenty-four hours a day for anyone that needs help. Random Acts, along with To Write Love On Her Arms and IMAlive, will train members of the Supernatural fandom (lovingly called the SPNFamily) that wish to volunteer at no cost. If you, or someone you know, would like to volunteer for this amazing network, click here to be added to the mailing list.

Both of these campaigns hit close to home for me because I have mental health issues. I also happen to be a proud member of the SPNFamily. All three men have stated in the past year that the fans have influenced them with their stories of the show helping them through tough times. They gave back to the fans in a big way. Jensen, Jared, and Misha know how to put the “super” in Supernatural. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for help.
