Dalin’s D23 Expo Report Part 2 – Live Action Movie Presentation – Marvel Section

Welcome back to the next installment of my report from D23 Expo 2015! Last time, we took a trip down nostalgia lane and looked at the Goofy Movie 20th Anniversary Panel. This time, we’re going to take a look at the highly anticipated Live Action movie panel. So prepare for some epic news y’all, it’s gonna be good, trust me.

My travel partner (Mom)  and I woke up at the ridiculous hour of 3:30 am, but since our brains were still on New York time, it felt closer to 6:00. We took a taxi over to the Anaheim Convention Center, and hightailed over to Hall E’s queue up area. When we got there we were greeted by what seemed to be at least 4,000 people. We luckily got into one of the designated seating area lines, and sat next to a super cool gentlemen and his nephew (who if they see this, please know you were some of the coolest people we met that weekend!). Eventually, when 9:00 am rolled around, we finally got ourselves moving into Hall D23 for the 10:30 am presentation.

After being seated and playing some Disney trivia, the panel began. First, we were shown a sizzle reel of the next slate of movies for Disney, from this year until 2018. From new Marvel films, to Star Wars and beyond, there is a lot coming from the House of Mouse. The reel concluded, the lights rose up, and the presentation went into full swing.

The first of the three companies to present their new movies was Marvel, hosted by the almighty Kevin Feige. Doctor Strange was represented through a reel showcasing some concept art, giving fans a glimpse of what is ahead for Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and the rest of the Strange crew. The one thing that became very apparent is the almost Art Deco look of the city in which our hero resides, which also seems to be the location of the film’s ending climatic battle. And for those curious about Tilda Swinton’s rendition of the Ancient, her appearance does seem a bit more androgynous than many have been left to believe. What does that mean for the movie exactly? We’ll have to wait until November of 2016 to find out.

But Marvel of course was not stopping there, as the next big title to be showcased was Captain America: Civil War, and not only were we shown a very earlier teaser trailer, but two of the cast members made a special appearance. First was Anthony Mackie, a.k.a. Falcon, who flew in quickly from the set in Germany to say hi to the D23 crowd. Anthony then made a remark that there couldn’t be a Captain America panel without the man himself, and thus Chris Evans stepped out onto the stage. This was one of many moments where the crowd jumped for joy at the sight of their favorite movie stars.

The two stars of the movie then presented the teaser, which was full of Easter eggs, including one especially made for D23 Expo, in which one of the vehicles that The Winter Solider drives has a D and a 23 clearly written on it. The teaser also featured the first masked appearance of Crossbones, and a funny crossover moment between Ant-Man and the new Avengers team.

Want to hear the next part of the presentation? Check back next week for the last bit of D23 Expo coverage! Which of these Marvel movies are you excited about? Comment below with your anticipation!
