Earlier this year, X-Philes everywhere rejoiced when Fox confirmed that The X-Files was going to return to the airwaves with six brand spanking new episodes of the beloved sci-fi drama. With both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny (the main characters, FBI Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, respectively) and series creator Chris Carter on board, fans are eagerly anticipating being treated to some new, other-worldy adventures!
Yesterday, Fox released its first official trailer for the reboot–check it out!
At fifteen seconds in length, it is absolutely a tease, with brief flashes of iconic imagery that those familiar with the show will recognize: Mulder’s I WANT TO BELIEVE poster (sadly discarded and being trampled on the floor); military helicopters; unknown, armed men sweeping blinding lights over a dark landscape. It’s all set to a few short notes of the original series’ haunting theme song, which still manages to give this geekette goosebumps.
In addition to the television show’s 9-season run, two movies saw their way into theaters: 1998’s The X-Files and 2008’s X-Files: I Want to Believe. Personally, I feel the former film is far superior to the latter, which is why I am simultaneously excited and filled with trepidation regarding the upcoming episodes of 2016.
What are your thoughts? Are you a longtime X-Phile (I STILL have my collection of cards, magazines, books, etc., SOMEwhere in storage…I started watching the year the show originally aired in 1993!), or are you an X-Files neophyte? On a scale of I to X, how excited are you about the new episodes?
And, most importantly, is the truth really out there?
