Geekettes Join the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge: Day 2

The Daily Geekette has been nominated to participate in the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge, which has been sweeping across the blogoverse of late. Thank you, The Gothic Library for the nomination!

The rules of the challenge are as follows:

1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Post a quote for three consecutive days (one quote per day).
3. Nominate three new bloggers each day!

Our second quote, chosen by Co-Editor-in-Chief, Kayla, is from Stephenie Meyer’s adult novel, The Host. In this universe, an alien race can insert themselves into the minds of other species and take control, creating peace everywhere they go. When the Wanderer gets to Earth to try and help colonize, she ends up living amongst humans and makes a beautiful observation:

“I’d never lived on a planet where such atrocities could happen, even before the souls came. This place was truly the highest and the lowest of all worlds- the most beautiful senses, the most exquisite emotions…the most malevolent desires, the darkest deeds. Perhaps it was meant to be so. Perhaps without the lows, the highs could not be reached.”

imageI have always loved this quote. Say what you will about Stephenie Meyer’s life choices, but the woman knows how to captivate an audience. This quote in particular struck me as beautiful and important when I was eighteen and reading the book for the first time. I had it written on a tote bag in fabric markers my freshman year of college. It’s so important to remember that everything bad that happens happens because it makes the good feel so much better.

I now nominate 3 blogs to take this challenge!

  1.  Marcilia of Reading in the TARDIS
  2. Dalin of Daily Geekette and Magical Ala Mode
  3. Brenna of Library Allegra
