The Daily Geekette has been nominated to participate in the 3 Days, 3 Quotes Challenge, which has been sweeping across the blogoverse of late. Thank you, The Gothic Library for the nomination!
The rules of the challenge are as follows:
- Thank the person who nominated you.
- Post a quote for three consecutive days (one quote per day).
- Nominate three new bloggers each day!
Our first quote, chosen by book contributor Carly, is from a novel all about the magic inherent in books and reading: Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.
“If you take a book with you on a journey,” Mo had said when he put the first one in her box, “an odd thing happens: The book begins collecting your memories. And forever after you have only to open that book to be back where you first read it. It will all come into your mind with the very first words: the sights you saw in that place, what it smelled like, the ice cream you ate while you were reading it… yes, books are like flypaper—memories cling to the printed page better than anything else.”
The bookbabes here at DG can definitely related to this quote. When I read the first few Harry Potter books, I’m back in my seven-year old self, curled up on the big green chair with my dad reading aloud to me. For one of the later books, I’m back on a plane to Ireland, which we had boarded soon after the book came out but even vacation couldn’t make us take a break from reading it. When reading some of the books from BEA, I can still feel the cold tile floor of the signing area where I first cracked open their pages while waiting in an hour-long line.
Inkheart is a very special book because every book-lover who reads it will find something to relate to in the way Meg and her father’s lives revolve around books. It’s so affirming to find some of your own thoughts about reading set down in ink, and there are plenty more really great quotes in this book. Guess you’ll have to read it to hear the rest.
The three new bloggers I nominate for the challenge are:
I look forward to reading your quotes!
