So, this weekend I was at ConnectiCon, a nerd gathering of smallish proportions in Hartford, CT. Ironically, a similar, yet much larger meeting was happening on the other coast–a little event you might know about called San Diego Comic Con. Yes, that is the one with all the movie sneak peeks, TV show panels, merchandise previews, and much much more. Though I did not attend the event, I was definitely on my phone, keeping myself up-to-date with the biggest stories, and as such I feel I can give you the (personal) coolest things I saw from this year’s SDCC….. online, at least.
Ron Perlman Army
Most people know that if Ron Perlman’s involved, your girl Dalin is gonna love it. So it should not be in the least bit surprising that seeing an army of Ron Perlman Judges marching the halls of SDCC was sort of a weird mix between a nightmare and a dream for this fangirl here. Regardless though, this is a brilliant marketing move for Perlman’s new project for Amazon, Hand of God, and even if you know nothing about the show, these awesome/terrifying cosplayers are nothing short of interesting.
S.H.I.E.L.D Owns at DubSmash
Regardless of whether you are a fan of Marvel‘s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D or not (of which I am in the latter category), it’s hard not to fall madly in love with the cast and their utterly perfect DubSmashing videos. Clark Gregg is an American treasure, and all these small clips of ridiculousness prove it–especially in the one above, set to Queen’s “We Are The Champions.” You are the champions of DubSmash, S.H.I.E.L.D! Don’t ever forget!
Outlander POP Figures
Ever since Outlander became a hit, both through the books and now the TV series, everyone has wanted to play with Jamie Fraser…. and now, YOU ACTUALLY CAN. Well… in the PG sense anyway. Yes, that’s right, Funko’s POP series is at it again, this time releasing Outlander’s Jamie as yet another fun chibi version doll. Clearly, this is his more season 1.0 rendition, with the super curly locks and slight facial hair. Is it wrong that I am hoping even more for a McDougal figure–just so I can reenact fights between him and Claire, and then Claire will beat him up at the end … Yep, I’ve thought way too much about this.
Evil Dead is a franchise that has not gotten too much justice these days. Between multiple delayed projects and an only-semi decent reboot movie, it seemed that Ash and company would never see the light of day, or their boom sticks, again. But thanks to the power of cable TV, Ash vs. Evil Dead is a thing, like seriously, it is actually happening–and there is a trailer to prove it. To say that this new series looks like a brilliant, gore-filled piece of television is an understatement, and with Bruce Campbell at the helm, you can’t go wrong.
First Footage of Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman
So, yeah, another Batman v. Superman: Dawn of (Insert Obvious Franchise Plan) trailer dropped at Comic-Con, and it was cool…. I guess…. until the Wonder Woman part came on. To say her scenes were dope was an incredible understatement, because they were amazeballs–at least, visually speaking. I’ll hold my judgements of the movie to the side for the moment, but at least I can say that our DC Lady of Justice looks just as mighty and perfect as we had dreamed.
American Horror Story: Hotel Looks Creepy As All Heck
Though some will say American Horror Story has lost its charm in the last couple of seasons, I actually have found the past two among my favorites of the franchise. But somehow, I get the feeling that the next installment, titled Hotel, is going to be among the creepiest of AHS’s history. And with this simple, one-shot teaser, featuring what seems to be Lady Gaga’s hand, covered by a mysterious silver glove (
or is that her own skin?) has got my head spinning all over the place, in the spookiest of ways.
Deadpool is coming, and he seems to be everything we wanted him to be and more. Yeah, at SDCC, the crowd at Hall H (and those that saw a leak via the interwebs) got to see the first footage from the forthcoming Rated-R comic book film, and trust me, this is the Deadpool fans have been waiting for. From his one-liners to fourth wall breaking brilliance, this is sure to be the Deadpool for the cinematic ages.
Super Hilarious Jurassic World Cosplayer
This guy won all of Comic-Con in terms of cosplay this year. ‘Nough said.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Panel + Concert
You know who crushed it at SDCC this year? Star Wars. Why? Because they had a beautifully diverse cast, with tons of female empowerment, animatronic puppets, old friends, lightsabers…. and, you know, a free concert after the panel that ended with fireworks! No big. With all this, plus the incredible behind-the-scenes featurette, Star Wars won Comic-Con, hands down.
So what were your highlights from SDCC? Were you in attendance? Did you watch the trailers (leaked or otherwise)? Comment below with your favorites of the weekend.
