So by now you’ve probably heard the rumors that Disney is making a movie about young Han Solo and I am THRILLED to say that it is 100% true! Lucasfilm confirmed the rumors, which have been circulating for almost 2 years now, with an announcement this past Tuesday. For die-hard Star Wars fans, this is a dream come true. And if the movie confirmation wasn’t enough, Lawrence Kasdan, writer and director behind Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, and Grand Canyon, and, most importantly, co-writer of the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens, has been announced as the screenwriter along with his son, Jon Kasdan. As a major Star Wars fan, I couldn’t be more excited!
The film, which will help audiences discover how young Han became the smuggling rogue we first encountered in Mos Eisley, will be directed by two of today’s most sought after movie directors, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord. Their credits include The LEGO Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and 22 Jump Street. This duo is thrilled to run the show for the third movie in the Star Wars standalone series and seem to have the love and respect necessary for the series to produce a movie that fans will love and accept.
“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us.” (Source)
Kathleen Kennedy, who has been listed as the producer for this project, is beyond excited to be working with such an incredible team.
“It’s not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I’m excited to say we’ve found the perfect team to handle the task. Larry and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han’s story.” (Source)
I agree with Kathleen. Personally, I think the only negative regarding this movie right now is that I need to wait another 3 years to see it! Even though no cast members have been announced yet (I am absolutely DYING to find out who is playing young Han), the release date has already been slated for May 25, 2018.
