This Week on TV: May 9-15

This week on TV…Once Upon a Time‘s 2-hour finale had heroes and villains trading places with some alternate universe fun. But is one of our heroes now next season’s villain? The Flash brought back many familiar faces, but didn’t seem to leave much to be resolved in next week’s season finale, while the Arrow finale did an excellent job of resolving many of the season’s longer arcs.

Once Upon a Time 4×22 and 4×23, “Operation Mongoose Parts 1 and 2” (Brianna)

Who sold their soul to get this fanfic on TV? Apparently it was Isaac the Author (Patrick Fischler), who pens a new story and forces the residents of Storybrooke into an alternate reality. Can Henry save his family from their literary fate, or is there a bigger threat on the horizon? Read my longer (and potentially rant-y) thoughts on the finale here. It’s a fun ride, but I have questions as to where we’re going in Season Five.

Jane the Virgin 1×22, “Chapter Twenty-Two” (Meg)

I wrote a full-length write-up of the first season of Jane the Virgin which went up yesterday. I thought the finale was a very fitting conclusion to what was one of the single-best first seasons of any show that I’ve seen in the last five years. #savemateo!

The Flash 1×22, “Rogue Air” (Megan)

When the particle accelerator suddenly activates, the team realizes that Dr. Wells has been hiding inside S.T.A.R. Labs this whole time. To save the imprisoned metahumans from being hurt when the accelerator reaches full power, Barry teams up with Captain Cold to try and transport them to the A.R.G.U.S. prison on Lian Yu. To absolutely no one’s surprise, Captain Cold turns on Barry, and sets the rogue metahumans free. As the particle accelerator reaches full power, Barry takes on Dr. Wells/Reverse-Flash with some help from Firestorm and the Arrow. Thanks to a nanite injection that Ollie brought (developed by Ray Palmer), the three of them disable Wells’ speed, and corner him. After finding the ring he was about to propose to her with, Iris also fights with Eddie, insisting that no matter what Wells showed him from the future, she has chosen him, and she wants to be with him. This episode resolved so much that I was left wondering what is going to be covered in the finale – which makes me nervous that it will be something I won’t be expecting. We’ll find out next week, I guess! Keep an eye out for a full-length post on The Flash season finale.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 2×21 and 2×22, “S.O.S.” (Meg)

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wrapped up its (overall) strong second season with a thrilling, emotional finale on Tuesday. I have a full write-up of the season coming, but for now…I have very mixed feelings about the second season, influenced largely by the decision to divide it into two parts. I loved part one, and there were only one or two episodes I wasn’t crazy about. Part two, on the other hand, had the highest of highs (like “Melinda”) and the lowest of lows, where full episodes just felt like a stream of conversations of clunky exposition. At any rate, I loved the finale and look forward to recapping it next week!

I wrote a full-length post about the season finale (and my feelings about the season as a whole), and you can read that post here. In brief: I thought the finale was satisfying, and while not as full of surprises as I might have expected, still made for an engaging episode.

What did you watch this week, Geekettes? Any stunning season finales that we’ve missed somehow?
