The Gal-lery: Polly Smith.

Does the name Polly Smith ring any bells? Yes; no; maybe?

What about, say, Muppet Treasure Island, The Muppets Take Manhattan or, something you might have watched recently, The Muppet Christmas Carol? Well, Smith is the Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning costume designer behind many a Jim Henson production.

Maybe it’s never crossed your mind, but those darling little creations don’t just show-up dressed and ready to perform! For over three decades, Smith has both designed costumes and/or worked as part of the art department/design teams for projects like Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Sesame Street, Labyrinth and many of the Muppet movies and television programs.

For me, she holds a special distinction, as she received her BFA in Fashion Design from my alma mater, Moore College of Art and Design, in Philadelphia, PA.

Smith also worked on the Creature Costume design/ Creature Workshop Team for the likes of Sir Didymus, Hoggle and Alph and Ralph.
